About me

Designer patterns with South American roots, made to stand out

I’m Cecilia Losada, CeciLo, a knitting and crochet designer born in Córdoba, Argentina, and based in Catalonia for more than 25 years.

Identity

I create designs for knitters and crocheters who look for something more than a pretty garment: pieces with identity, sophisticated and recognisable, with a clear intention behind every design decision.

I care that every piece has its own character. That colour, construction, technique and details aren’t there simply to decorate, but are part of a language. Designs that are recognisable, that have presence and don’t need to look like what already exists.

Roots

My creative universe is deeply tied to my South American roots. Colour, geometry, traditional textiles, symbols and the huge visual and musical richness of Latin America appear again and again in my work, reinterpreted from a contemporary point of view.

I’m not interested in literally reproducing tradition. I’m interested in taking all that language that is part of my identity and bringing it somewhere more everyday, into day-to-day life.

Details

Sometimes it shows up in a colour combination. Other times in a construction, a geometric motif, a texture, or even in the name and the story behind a design.

And always with one premise: to create pieces that have something to say.

Technique

Knitting and crochet, without picking a side

I design in both knitting and crochet because I’ve never understood why I would have to choose between the two.

I’m interested in exploring the possibilities of each technique, playing with construction, colour, textures and shapes, and using whichever technique best lets me tell the story of each design.

Technique is a tool. Design is what rules.

My patterns are made for knitters and crocheters who enjoy the process as much as the result, who want to keep learning and who aren’t afraid of finding something different on their needles.

Journey

From El Garraf, towards infinity

Throughout my career, my designs have reached the needles of makers all over the world and my work has taken me much further than I would have imagined.

I have been part of Knit Stars, I’ve been interviewed and featured by Ravelry, I’ve taken part in the Fruity Knitting podcast and I’ve been invited to teach at Vogue Knitting LIVE, Barcelona Knits, ExpoTeje, CórdobaTeje and at some of the main knitting festivals and events, in both Spanish and English.

Teaching is as much a part of my work as designing.

I love taking apart techniques that seem complicated, understanding what is really happening between the stitches and helping other makers use them freely afterwards.

Because learning a technique shouldn’t only be about finishing one pattern.

It should give you a new tool to keep exploring.

My universe

Two continents, two languages, one identity

I work between Spanish and English, between Europe and Latin America, with an international community of makers who share something that is fundamental to me:

The desire to create something that doesn’t look like everything else.

After more than two decades living in different parts of the world, my creative identity has inevitably been built among many of the places where I have lived alongside the local culture.

South America is in my roots.

Spain and Catalonia are part of who I am today.

And the world of making has allowed me to connect both with people from completely different countries, cultures and traditions.

CeciLo Designs is born precisely from there.

And from the conviction that handmade doesn’t have to go unnoticed.

Welcome to my universe.
